2015- Memphis Kenyan Olympics – sponsored by JONDA

This year’s Memphis Kenyan Olympics took place Saturday July 25 at the Shelby Farms Park in Memphis TN.  The turnout was great despite the projected weather of about 105 F. The organizers however, selected a shaded wooded area with trees providing much needed covering. There was plenty of water for hydration and all the scheduled events were completed.

The competition was fierce with the traditional rivals Team Pink – captained by Phenora M. fielding contestants in every category. Team yellow had early advantage as they won most of the youth sports but later in the evening struggled to get points in the adult competition. Team Red were the proverbial underachievers who lost the much coveted bragging rights for the tag of war to a much smaller but determined team pink.

So competitive were the games that at the end of the day, the winner had to be determined by a coin toss. Both team Pink and Team Green were tied with no other sport left (and only sport not undertaken – hot dog eating contest,) The team captains left it to chance. Team pink called tails but the coin landed on Heads — thus allowing a new champion team Green to be crowned new champions for the first time in 5 years. The rivalry thus begins…lets wait till next year. Team Green’s captain Olima has promised to start recruiting for next years events and has guaranteed another victory.
